Teams from all over Midwest to play in Spring Fling

Cleveland-The Diversified Volleyball Association of Cleveland, or DiVA, is holding its first annual Spring Fling Volleyball Tournament on April 17-18 at Cleveland State University.
Teams from throughout the Midwest, including Cleveland, Columbus, Washington D.C., Buffalo, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Milwaukee will be in attendance for this two day sporting event. Spring Fling is sponsored by the Grid nightclub and Volleyball One, a national sporting goods sales company located in California.

are also members of the North American events in northeastern Ohio.
Gay Volleyball Association,
or NAGVA. The association sanctions various tournaments across the United States and Canada, with the national championships being held this year in Houston. Many local teams travel to various NAGVA tournaments throughout the United States.

DIVA was formed over 20 years ago to promote the sport of volleyball and to encourage positive activities in the gay and lesbian community, regardless of skill level and orientation,. Currently DiVA has two leagues throughout the year, an outdoor summer league starting in May and an indoor league beginning in October. The winter session recently had 18

Proceeds from this tournament will benefit the AIDS Taskforce of Cleveland.

Gay and lesbian travel to be focus of Pride Center meeting
Akron-Representatives of Parkside Travel and Cruises of Stow will be the featured guests at the next meeting of the Akron Area Pride Collective on Tuesday, April 20 at 7 pm. at the Pride Center, 71 North Adams Street in Akron.
Monthly seminar meetings of the Akron Area Pride Collective are free and open to members of the AAPC, their guests and to the public.
Meetings of the Akron Area Pride Collective focus on issues facing the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community, as well as families and friends. The April 20 meeting will include expert advice on travel opportunities and destinations catering to gay men and lesbian women.
Guest speakers will include Parkside owners Dick Seeger and Jerry Jensen. Parkside is a member of the International Gay Lesbian Travel Associa-
tion.

"I'm especially interested in this topic because I'd like to have some information for future planning,” said Marnay Schrock, volunteer coordinator at the Pride Center. “A
major trip requires some planning and budgeting so I'd like to know what the possibilities are so I'll get the best vacation at the best price."
"I'm looking forward to this meeting," said James Lehman of the Pride Center. "Let's face it we all work too hard anyway so why not dream of the perfect vacation!"
The April 20 meeting will begin with a review of Akron Area Pride Collective business followed by a half-hour presentation from the guests and a half-hour question and answer session. The meeting will be followed by the traditional Pride Center mixer.

Cabaret evening will benefit people with AIDS
Cleveland-It is time once again for "A Day to Remember," the seventh annual benefit to remember our loved ones who are living with AIDS and those who have died as a result of HIV.
As in the past, this event will take place over a four or five-day period beginning with Cleveland area nightclubs hosting the preliminary nights, leading up to the final night sit-down dinner and cabaret show.
(Reba McIntyre impersonator), Chelsea Pearl (Former Miss USofA at Large), Dena Cass (reigning Miss USofA at Large), the Baton Show Lounge Girls from Chicago, Vicki Williams (Barbra Streisand Impersonator), and many others. The show will be hosted by Ginger Manchester and cohosted by Big Mama. Special guest emcee Denise Russell will also appear.
A Day to Remember
That "grand finale" event will take place on Sunday, April 25 at U4ia night club. Doors will open at 7 p.m. There will be a social hour from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by a sit down dinner from 8 to9p.m.

National Log Cabin chair to speak at Columbus club
Columbus-Robert Stears, the national chair of the board of directors of Log Cabin Republicans in Washington, D.C., will speak at a regular meeting of the Log Cabin Republican Club of Columbus on Thursday, April 22, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm at the home of Steve Wagner, 2465 East Broad Street in Bexley.
